ICC Champions Trophy: Australia Vs West Indies 01/06/2013 Results, Review and Statistical Highlights

The second Warmup match of the ICC Champions trophy held on 01/06/2013 was between Australia and West Indies.  Both the teams had a relatively new side with West Indies having a new captain in the form of Dwayne Bravo.  The match kicked off on a positive note for the West Indies as they won the toss and elected to bat first.  Lets take a closer look at the batting and bowling performance reviews of each teams along with who had the last laugh at the match that took place on Saturday.

Statistical Highlights

Australia over the past two years have seen a severe decline in their batting as most of their batting greats such as Adam Gilchrist, Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting had retired.  This was a perfect outing for them to check out their flaws and work on it before they get into the tournament.  West Indies on the other hand had a new captain Dwayne Bravo which meant the team might need a bit of an adjustment to get used to a new leader as they eye the Championship.

West Indies Batting

West Indies batting looked a little out of sorts as i thought they didn't fully utilize their time out at the crease.  Most of their batsmen got starts but none of them capitalized on it.  The best highlights of their innings were  Darren Bravo and Johnson Charles who made a score of 86 and 55 respectively.  They managed to only put a score of 256 on the board which in this day and age is a quite simple target to chase down.

Australia Bowling

The Australian bowling was very impressive with Mitchell Starc leading the pack.  He picked up four wickets and was well supported by Clint McKay who picked up 3 while Shane Watson chipped in with a wicket.  What's impressive about Starc is that he had given up on playing the Indian Premier League because he wanted to play for his country first.

West Indies Bowling

West Indies bowlers had a good outing and picked up regular wickets to always stay in the hunt, but there was one man they didn't have answer to.  The man who is known as Shane Watson.  The highlights of the West Indian bowling were Tino Best and Kemar Roach who picked up a couple of wickets each.

Australia Batting

Quite disappointing really, they once again depended on Shane Watson to do the job for them.  He did so in style as he scored 135 of 98 balls which made it easy for their remaining batsmen to chase down the score.  Apart from watson the other notable highlights of their innings were Adam Voges and Mitchell Marsh who made a score of 43 and 39 Respectively.
