Sri Lanka Vs England 13/06/2013 - Results, Review and Statistical Highlights
The ICC Champions Trophy ODI cricket match between Sri Lanka and England held on 13/06/2013 kicked off with Sri Lanka winning the toss and electing to bowl first. I don't think England would have minded batting first as they possessed an impressive bowling unit. Read on for the complete Sri Lanka Vs England 13/06/2013 Results along with a review and Statistical Highlights of the match as it happened.
Statistical Highlights
This match was very important for Sri Lanka as they had already lost their previous encounter against New Zealand and needed a win to stay alive in the tournament. England on the other hand would have loved winning today to ensure a spot in the playoffs. What was going to be interesting was to see how the Englishmen performed today against a team they had not faced quite regularly. Lets now take a closer look at the Batting and Bowling performance Reviews along with the results of the match that took place today (13/06/2013.)
England Batting and Bowling
England's batting on 14/06/2013 was steady throughout as they ensured they had a decent opening partnership and a steady scoring rate throughout to lay a foundation for the remaining batsmen to go after the bowling for the final 10-15 overs. The best highlights of their innings were Jonathan Trott and Alastair Cook who made a score of 76 and 59 Respectively. Joe Root and Ravi Bopara batted exceptionally well towards the end as they made a score of 68 and 33 respectively to boost their total to 293. Ravi Bopara's 28 Runs off the final over of the innings by Shaminda Eranga tilted the results in their favor as at one stage it looked as though the Lankans were controlling the match as they picked up regular wickets.
England's bowling was quite disappointing. Despite picking up a wicket early they couldn't quite get the job done as none of their bowlers had any answers to Kumar Sangakarra's batting. Once again they seemed to be too dependent on James Anderson and Graeme Swann who couldn't do much damage despite bowling well. The best highlights of their bowling was James Anderson who picked up 2 Wickets.
Sri Lanka Bowling and Batting
Sri Lanka's bowling on 13/06/2013 was decent but their fielding was horrendous as they dropped around 4 catches and missed 3 run outs which could have made a lot of difference to results of the match. Despite bowling tight lines towards the beginning they gave away a lot of runs towards the end which made things difficult for them. The best highlights of their bowling were Lasith Malinga and Rangana Herath who picked up 2 wickets. Shaminda Eranga was very expensive in his final over as he gave away 28 Runs and the resulted seemed to be favoring the Englishmen as they had a good bowling attack to defend 293.
SL batting performance was much better than their previous match as they had god partnerships throughout as they tried to chase down a somewhat stiff target. They ended up winning the match comfortably with the best highlights of their batting being Kumar Sangakkara and Nuwan Kulasekara (Yes you read that right!) who made a score of 134 and 58 respectively.
