The day 1 of the 2nd Ashes Test Match between Australia and England on 18/07/2013 kicked off with Eng winning the toss and electing to bat first. It was a perfect sunny weather at Lord's, London and either of the teams would have loved batting first with the given conditions. The last test match saw a close finish for both the teams and this was not expected to be any different either. Read on for the complete Australia Vs England 18/07/2013 - 2nd Ashes Test - Scorecard, Batting and Bowling performance review and statistical highlights.
Statistical Highlights
Just like the last test match, this one started off on yet another roller coaster ride. Despite winning the toss England failed to capitalize the good batting conditions as they lost three wickets for just 28 runs. A partnership between Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott however resurrected their innings before trott fell after making a very well compiled 58. The best highlights of their batting innings however was Ian Bell who scored yet another century as he made 109. After Trott's dismissal a partnership between Bell and Jonny Bairstow got them in the driving seat as they were at a score of 271 for 4 at one stage, but after the wicket bell, Eng collapsed as they ended up losing 7 wickets before the close of play and ended day 1 at a score of 289 for the loss of 7 wickets.
Australia's bowling was patch as they picked up regular wickets initially but were a little out of order during Trott-Bell-Bairstow innings. However if you look at how the score ended on 18/07/2013, Aus will be a much happier team as they have managed to pick up 7 wickets on what is claimed to be a very good batting pitch. The best highlights of the Aussie bowling were Ryan Harris and Steven Smith who picked up 3 wickets each.
